Who are Comfort Quilts Scotland?
We are a group of hand crafters, who love stitching. We've come together to make quilts and other items to donate to children and adults in need of a hug, a token to show someone cares. We have formed a non-profit making voluntary organisation, and have registered with Clydebank Volunteer Services, as Comfort Quilts.
Our aims are:
- to make quilts to donate to those in need
- to spread the word about quilting.
Our unofficial aim is to have fun while doing the official bits!

How and why did we get started?
We had been making quilts and other items on an ad hoc basis, but we wanted to do much more. We knew that to increase the supply of quilts, we needed to fundraise. A group of friends decided that to do this properly, we should be a democratic group, with a structure and meetings. This let us organise a bank account, receive assistance from the Volunteer Services, and ultimately, apply for grants.
So we formed as a properly constituted group, with a full committee, set dates for 4 meetings. Our first official meeting was in July 2007, where we set membership fees, aims and proposed way of working. Our constitution was agreed, and we got down to the serious business of stitching!
Where are we based?
Most of the current committee and membership are in the Central Belt, however we have members in England and Far North too! We hope to move some meetings around, so that people have the chance to come to a local meeting, reducing travel costs. This is dependent on good halls at very cheap rates, so if you know of a church hall or community centre that would work, please let us know. It would be even better if you and your friends could organise hall hire, and donate some baking. That would be fantastic.Link Here
