Donations
I would like to give Comfort Quilts a donation.
Please make contact with a committee member to make a donation, click here for committee contacts.
What else could I donate?
We use metres and metres of fabric, usually cotton or poly cotton. We don't use fabrics with angels. We can use any size scraps from about 4 inch square upwards, the bigger the better. If you want to donate to a local quilter, get in touch with us, and we'll put you in contact, so that you can meet, rather than post - we prefer not to "waste" money on postage if we can avoid it. We have a few local shops that would happily organise gift vouchers over the phone for fabric/wadding (and they give us a good discount too, making donations go further).
We use good quality wadding, often Soft and Bright, Warm and Natural, and Hobbs, but any good quality wadding can be used. We don't use the cheaper polyesters as they can shred after just a few washings, and leave parts of the quilt thin. One of our techniques involves using leftovers of wadding, any size bigger than 12 inch square. The instructions will be available in our patterns section. Page and patterns still being worked on - expected around Easter 09.
Often forgotten, we use lots of thread! It should be incidental, but in today's market, thread is becoming more expensive. We generally use a smooth, long staple 100% cotton, not polyester of any kind, simply because polyester thread will cut cotton fabric fairly quickly - cotton thread will snap usually before the fabric tears, so makes any repairs easier. Not all thread is cotton, so if considering a purchase, please check carefully.
We always need paper and cartridges for leaflets, newsletters and posters, followed by envelopes and postage to send these out.
Every quilt is washed using Fairy, dried and packed in it's own bag, along with a leaflet, so donations of vouchers towards the cost of washing powder from supermarkets would be very gratefully received.
We hope to run one raffle per year, so items for prizes would be wonderful, although a quilt is likely to be the main prize most years, unless we receive a gift of something to top that! We will also be running a lucky dip at the Loch Lomond Quilt Shows 2009 and 2010, as we have been generously donated a free stand. For this we prefer small prizes (approx £1 value), or more precious, some of your time to man the stand?
